GEA’s Energy Technology Division receives orders from the power industry in excess of 400 MEUR

By GEA Energy Technology

Bochum/Johannesburg/Beijing December 07, 2007.

GEA Aircooled Systems in South Africa has received the turnkey order for the complete design, manufacture, supply and erection of the Air Cooled Condensers for the new 6 x 800 MW Medupi fossil fuelled power station at Lephalale in South Africa from Alstom Power Systems. With 25% of the global installed base, Alstom is a world leader in power generation. A direct dry air cooled condenser system was chosen for the project due to water being a scarce commodity in the country.

The end customer for the new project is Eskom, South Africa’s leading power producer.
GEA Aircooled Systems has extensive experience in the field of Air Cooled Power Plants in South Africa with Eskom having previously supplied the Air Cooled Condensers for both the Matimba and Majuba Power Stations. The major portion of the equipment and services for the Medupi Power Station project - to be executed between 2008 and 2013 - will be sourced in South Africa and will result in a long-term loading for GEA’s manufacturing operation based in Johannesburg.

The Medupi Power Station project is strategic to South Africa’s policy to increase the installed power capacity in the country.

In China, GEA has received the order to plan and supply the Heller ® Indirect Dry Cooling System for the 2 x 660MW Bao-Ji Power Station. This is the second order for a Heller Cooling system in China within the last 2 years and underlines the market leadership of EGI in this innovative Power Plant Cooling Process.

In addition, GEA’s Energy Technology Division has received substantial service orders from the power industry in the 4th quarter 2007.

With these orders also in 2007, GEA’s Energy Technology Division will achieve another year of record order intake after the previous record in 2006 said Juerg Oleas, Chairman of the Executive Board  GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft.
