GEA supplies large air cooled condenser for power plant in Denizli/Turkey

By Dirk Schlichting (schlichting)

Bochum/ Denizli, June 11, 2010 – GEA Group recently received a large order for the air cooled condenser of a new 775 MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant to be built in the Denizli province of Turkey by the EPC contractor METKA S.A. The power plant will be owned by RWE & Turcas Güney Elektrik Üretim A.Ş.

“The power plant’s location about 280 km south east of Izmir is close to a main gas pipeline as well as the public grid. As water is scarce in that region a dry cooling steam condensation and cooling system was the natural choice for METKA, because it allows the power plant to run on minimal water supply”, Jörg Jeliniewski, President of the segment GEA Heat Exchangers pointed out. GEA will supply a so-called Alex air cooled condenser which has proven its reliability and efficiency under extreme environmental conditions in numerous power plants across the globe.

GEA Group has focused all its heat exchanger activities in the segment GEA Heat Exchangers. Applications range from heat exchangers for the food industry to comprehensive process cooling installations for the power and energy industry.
